Joan's birthday celebration update!
We had a wonderful time celebrating Joan's birthday and helping Katrina victims! We have donated almost 50 huge boxes of supplies and over $13,000 dollars!
How did it all begin...because of the great need in the hurricane disaster areas, I wanted to do something that would help out fast. I was feeling rather helpless at the enormity of it all. So I asked myself, what can I do? And
Making Big Money Fast and Giving It Away
At the two day Boundaries Training, in September we raised over $10,300 in less than 5 hours to send off to help those in need in Louisiana! What a great gift- a double gift in fact. The money was raised by attendees buying special New Orleans Boundaries Gift Certificates for friends and families at a great price- so their loved ones get the gift of transforming all their relationships. And we, at Boundaries, www.joancasey.com, donated 100% of the money to an organization, Veterans for Peace, which is doing amazing front line work in the isolated areas of Louisiana where people still desperately need immediate assistance.
Everyone also donated enough supplies to fill two pickup trucks to ship down to the hurricane areas as well. On Sunday morning, as we started the second day of the training, you should have seen the stage piled high with food, diapers, aspirin, water, rubber gloves, flashlights and many other needed items. At the end of the training, we car caravanned to my office to drop of the supplies, for later sorting and packing to ship.
This was during the two-day Boundaries Training- which, as many of you know, is already a jam-packed weekend! It was joyful, tearful experience to join together so focused and fast for a good cause. We had a great time. My heartfelt thanks once again to those who were there- you absolutely rock!
My "Hurricane Supplies Shipping and Packing" Birthday Party
We had a great birthday party, for my birthday on September 24th. We invited everyone who wanted to come and Contact Radio http://www.contactradio.info/hosts.htm announced it all week long. We met at my office in Ballard to prepare all the donations for shipment. I got my wish of (I do get a wish dont I? I mean it is my birthday) of lots of people coming and bringing more donations to help those in need.. We had a HUGE truck load to send down south. It was lots of fun, with lots of cake and balloons. KING 5 TV http://www.king5.com/video/ came and interviewed us and it was the top story of the day. We sent out almost 50 huge boxes with everything from baby diapers and school supplies, to medicine and food. Yahoo!
We Love Our Shipping Heros
Many thanks to the folks at the Sip and Ship in Ballard. A mailing business/coffee house, they have donated a lot of time, energy and money to help with the hurricane victims. They were able to get us a huge discount on shipping costs. Check our their cute coffee house and see what they are doing. They have great gifts, too. http://www.sipandship.com/ When you go there, give Diana, one of the owners, a big hello from me.
If You Want To Do Something- Do It -With A "Small v" On Contact Radio several weeks ago, I talked about the difference between a capital V Victim, someone who has taken on a Victim stance as a constant role and a way to manipulate others, versus a small v victim, someone who has experienced a traumatic event. When you rescue people who are capital V Victims, you become part of the problem. You get caught in the classic Dance of Drama, where you slip into being a pathological caretaker who overgives and takes on others responsibilities. For more information on this, click here

If you want to do something to help- do it. And do it in a healthy, helpful way. There is a huge difference in giving from compassion, love and common sense versus giving from anxiety and compulsion. I have found, with healthy boundaries, people become more generous and kind. They give in a manner that really makes a positive difference. Do You Have Evacuees In Your City?
We were touched when we found out one of the attendees at the Boundaries Training in Seattle this weekend is a coordinator for over 700 people who have been rescued and flown in from Louisiana. Housing is still needed for some of them. She asks you to contact her if any of you have any inexpensive housing available in the Pacific North West- they need it now. Her contact info is:
Manu Morgan 425-290-8499 Ext.#535
If you live outside of Seattle, you could find out what your city is doing to help displaced people. Wouldn't it be fun to host a family or get them some clothes and take them out to dinner?
